Educator of the Year Awards

Annually, the Catholic Foundation of Oklahoma utilizes its discretionary funds to support educational programs including college scholarships and grants to parishes and schools. Education has long been the emphasis of the Catholic Foundation, dating back to its inception in 1965.

Over the past six years, the Catholic Foundation has also recognized outstanding educators in the Archdiocese as an extension of its focus on education.The Foundation awards the Catholic School Educator of the Year and the Religious Education Educator of the Year each year.

These exceptional Award recipients are recognized for their significant contribution to the Catholic education process in both Catholic Schools and in Religious Education programs of their Parish. Nomination forms are sent annually to Pastors, School Principals and Directors of Religious Education, but anyone can request a nomination form and nominate worthy individuals. Nominees should be classroom educators or catechists in youth, confirmation, RCIA or adult education/formation programs. On the Religious Education side, the nominated catechist must be an un-paid volunteer.

For the year 2009-10, John Keilty of Mount St. Mary High School was recognized as the recipient of the Catholic School Educator of the Year Award. Finalists for the Catholic School Educator of the Year Award were Steve McConnell of Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School and Donna Holmes of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School, Edmond.

Likewise, in 2009-10, Suzie Mitten of St. Gregory the Great Parish, Enid, was recognized as the recipient of the Religious Education Educator of the Year Award. Finalists for the Religious Education Educator of the Year Award were Mary Long of St. Peter Parish, Guymon, and Barbara Hietpas of St. John Nepomuk Parish, Yukon.
